This portrait is of a young girl smiling. She looks youthful and innocent, due to her young age and her stress-free life. Because of her age and innocence, she looks as if she wouldn't even think of doing something wrong. In addition to this, her glasses and clipped-away hair adds onto her just being a "cute" little girl who doesn't have a negative bone in her body.

This portrait is of a young boy who seems like he would be a little rebel. His face is pouting, as if he didn't get what he wanted the first time he asked and is about to throw a huge fit. His eyes and forehead are scrunched, making it look like he's really concentrating on his target/ angry at the fact that he didn't get something he wanted. Lastly, it looks like he is tugging at his shirt, which is another sign of restlessness and aggravation.

This portrait is of a woman smiling with her eyes closed and her hair in her face. She looks extremely care-free and in a very positive mood due to the fact that she doesn't care that her hair is all over the place, and her eyes are closed which makes me think of someone being peaceful and calm. The fact that she's smiling automatically makes me believe that she is in a good mood because her smile seems genuine, positive, and extremely carefree.

This portrait portrays high levels of unhappiness and sadness. Just by looking at this girl's eyes, you can tell she is unhappy. She isn't smiling, and her eyes are filled with sadness. Her eyes show a blank expression, as does the rest of her emotionless face. Her hair is just hanging by the sides of her face and as if she is completely abandoned and alone, which add onto her feelings of unhappiness.

This photo portraying "secrecy" is extremely obvious. The reaction on the girl's face on the left portrays the fact that the girl on the right is telling her a secret, due to her cupped hand and the other girl's surprised face. The girl telling the secret is trying to keep calm, which I can tell by the relaxed look on her face, and since the girls are both young, the one on the left isn't able to "hide" secrets well, as shown by her facial expression.

This woman seems to be possessed in a way, by the frightened look in her eyes. She looks like she is hiding from someone and has just seen someone she wished she didn't. She looks scared, helpless, and in need of some sort of escape.

This woman has a "sinister-type" look to her and enjoys causing pain and misery to others. She looks very fierce, which I can tell by the glare in her eyes. Her dark makeup surrounding her eyes makes them stand out from her pale face and blonde hair, in addition to the white background.

The devil's advocate is portrayed throughout this photo simply by the look in this woman's eyes. She has an intense look and almost seems as if she's hiding something behind her straight face. I feel the mood of anger through this photograph just by looking at her eyes and her facial expression. This woman seems as if she could always win an argument due to her glare, even if she may really be unsure of herself.

Journal 5A:
Memory 1: A distinct memory that I remember from my childhood is playing outside in the summer with my little brother. We would go swimming in our pool and run through the sprinkler and just have a good time laughing. I remember seeing the smoke from the grill while my dad would cook burgers and hotdogs and my mom bringing out cold drinks. This was a great time for all of us because it was a time where nothing else seemed to be important and we could all just have fun together.

Memory 2: A fun memory I will always have was having the opportunity to go to Russia and visit my grandparents and half-sister for the first time. I was only in the third grade, but I distinctly remember going there in the winter and seeing the beautiful white snow falling gracefully onto the already huge piles of snow. Being able to visit such a different atmosphere (in the winter) is a memory I will never forget.

Memory 3: A significant memory that I have from my childhood was being able to go to a sleepaway camp for a month. I loved the outdoor atmosphere, being able to live in a small cabin with a bunch of different girls that I met from all over Connecticut, New York, and even some from Israel. This was a Jewish camp which I had come to love by the end of the month.

Memory 4: A memory of mine from not so long ago, was the moment that I found out I made the varsity tennis team as a freshman. This was an overwhelming feeling, but I also felt extremely happy and accomplished. My parents were so proud at the fact that I had discovered an ability that I wasn't aware of originally. This was my first time playing tennis, and I did extremely well. It was a feeling I will never forget.

Low Depth Abstraction:
DSC_7932.JPG
I feel I was somewhat successful with this photograph. I like the textures and the fact that there is a sense of depth in the photo. I would've liked the photo to be a little brighter and have less yellow/orange. I should have played more with the color levels and hue and saturation. Next time, I am going to be a little more creative when choosing an object to shoot and search for a larger variety of textures.

Light as Subject Matter:
VU5.jpg
I liked this photo because of how abstract it is. Also, I like that there is a sense of movement throughout the photo and your eyes move up in the formation of the light. In addition to this, I liked how unique the photo was in general. I didn't like how there wasn't much texture throughout the photo and wish the photo presented more of the textures in the painting that I reflected the light off of.

The photo I like the best is Philippa Rizopoulos and George Spencer (the fourth photo). I like this photo for several reasons, one being the mystery behind it. The photo captures the image of a dark room being lit up by a television with no specific image on it, just a bright white light. The focal point of this photo is the translucent woman sitting on her bed showing no shape besides for her neck and above, with her head leaning against the wall to the right of the photo, not directly in the center, representing the rule of thirds. This photo gives me a depressed feeling due to the fact that the woman's face has a blank expression and she's staring at a blank television screen. Due to the fact that she is "translucent", there is no shape to her body, it's as if she only has a head, which leans against the wall, it makes me wonder why she is sitting there, if she is a ghost (why she is translucent), and why she is lying there showing no facial expressions. These are a few of the many reasons I enjoyed this photograph.

I am interested in this image for several reasons. First of all, the image has a playful feeling to it and seems to have be taken a long time ago. I like the fact that the image is in black and white and looks vintage. The design of this image has two main points: the man and the shadow. The two men each have one arm outstretched while pulling one other. In addition, each man has one foot on the shadow of the man taking the photo. I like the fact that the two men stepping on the shadow are being playful while the shadow remains still and in the middle of the photograph. Light is the subject matter because the shadows are significant parts of this photograph.

I am interested in this image for a few reasons. First of all, I like the contrast of the white dandelion and its black background, making the flower stand out. In addition, I like the misfit petals sticking out of the top of the flower while the bottom of the flower is covered with petals. The flower is definitely the focal point of this photograph and since it is white in front of a black background, the flower stands out, showing how light is the subject matter.

This photo is interesting for several reasons. I like the fact that the people are all dark and the background (sky) is bright. I also like the pattern of the windows, which is being reflected onto the floor. This photograph isn't necessarily focused on the people in the photo, but the brightness of the sky and the reflection of the windows on the floor. This was an example of reflection as the subject matter.

Title: Hermit crab looking at larger shell
Photographer: Jeffrey Hamilton
URL: http://www.gettyimages.com/creative/beach-stock-photos?isource=usa-en_home_ftv_featuredContent
When taken: n/a

The reason I chose this photograph was because it is relaxing, very tranquil, and shows the small hermit crab deciding whether or not to move onto a larger shell. This represents people in during their every day lives attempting to do something better for themselves and move out of their comfort zone, which in this case is this hermit crab in his small shell. This photo was shot from eye-level with the hermit crab on the beach with the ocean in the. The emotion I felt when first seeing this image was peace and tranquility due to the fact that the photo taken is one of a harmless hermit crab trying to move on to bigger and better things (his new, larger shell.) These are a few reasons I decided to choose this photo.
